Hodges Stadium will see its second day of action this season when the Ospreys host Flagler (4-1-0) at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20. The Ospreys outlasted Gardner-Webb, 3-2, in the home opener on Sept. 7. Winners of four-straight matches, Flagler boasts a 2-0-0 record on the road. UNF holds a 6-4-1 edge in the all-time series record. Live stats will be available by clicking here.
Week Recap
UNF took part in the Evansville ProRehab Classic over the weekend, battling rough weather conditions in both of its matches. Lightning caused a 53-minute delay in the Ospreys' Friday night match against
In the tournament finale against No. 25 Bradley, wind gusts of up to 50 miles-per-hour created extremely difficult playing conditions. Wind aided both Bradley goals, one of which was scored in the final two seconds, and the Braves blanked UNF, 2-0.
Who's Hot
Freshman Theo Fulger established himself as a top contributor only three games into the season, making his first start and adding his first assist as an Osprey in UNF's home opener on Sept. 7. Since that time, Fulger has seen all 295 minutes of action compared to just 31 minutes in the first two matches of the season.
Senior Tony Restino, a transfer from Webber International, jumped right into the mix at UNF and has seen every minute of action in goal for the Ospreys. His 27 saves this season ranks second in the A-Sun and falls just one short of the top position. He also ranks seventh on the goals against average list at 1.70.
Record Watch
After just one season as an Osprey, sophomore goalkeeper Andrew Calise has already made his mark on the UNF men's soccer record book. His 96 saves last season rank fourth on the individual season record list and sixth on the career list. With 26 saves, he will move into second place all-time and needs 187 to become UNF's saves leader. He posted four shutouts in 2007, which is sixth-best all-time and fifth for a single season. His name also appears in both the single season and career lists for save percentage and goals against average.
Sophomore forward Akil DeFreitas netted four game-winning goals last season and needs just four more in his career to become UNF's all-time leader in that category. The same stat ranks him first for an individual season (tied with A.J. Romano).
Quotables
Head coach Ray Bunch on the windy conditions in Sunday's match: “It was a very strange game. At the end, the wind blew our corner kick out of the box and toward midfield, which set up their second goal. A gust of wind also blew the ball in on their corner kick for the first goal.”
Bunch's thoughts after the
Bunch on returning to Hodges Stadium: “It's nice to play at home. We can go about our normal routine and enjoy our fans and our facilities. While traveling is good for team bonding, it wears on a team to travel as much as we have this season.”
Bunch on Saturday's match against Flagler: “Even though we will be at home, it's not much of a trip for them, so the full advantage of home field isn't there. They are off to a flying start, and we can't underestimate them.”
