On senior day, UNF's group of four seniors did not disappoint. The group of Ashley Parenteau, Heather Hyde, Tori Ahern and
“All-in-all it was a great pair of wins for us,” said UNF head coach Sonya Wilmoth, who coached her final game at the UNF Softball Complex after 12 years at the helm of the Lady Osprey program. “I told the team afterwards this is the feeling I will miss the most. The feeling you have after winning two games. I was proud to see all four of our seniors make significant contributions in the final home doubleheader.”
Wilmoth is retiring from collegiate coaching at the end of the season after compiling more than 400 wins at UNF.
Parenteau hit a home run in each game for the Lady Ospreys (36-21), while Tori Ahern pitched a complete game in the opener to earn her 16th win of the season. All four seniors had hits in both ends of the doubleheader with Hyde belting her 12th home run of the season and Williams collecting two hits in the opener.
Parenteau's home run in game two was her 10th of the season, setting a new career-high while also tying
Parenteau started the game on the right foot for UNF, answering a pair of Armstrong runs in the top of the first with a solo home run that she lined out to left field to lead off the bottom of the first.
Hyde gave UNF a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the third with a two-run home run that easily cleared the fence in left-center. AASU came back to tie the game in the top of the fourth, but the Lady Ospreys answered right back, taking the lead for good with three runs in the bottom of the frame. Kara Rutenbar doubled home a run to start the scoring before Ashley Battaglia and Williams drove home runs with back-to-back singles to make it a 6-3 contest.
Rutenbar had her second 4-for-4 performance in her last three games, while Ahern – who hit for the first time this season – was 2-for-2 with a walk and a run.
AASU (26-18) was able to collect nine hits off of Ahern, plating single runs in the fourth and fifth after Natalie Vogler delivered a two-run home run in the top of the first. Ahern (16-8) struck out five and walked four in the win.
Every Lady Osprey starter collected a hit in the nightcap, while all but one had a hit in game one.
Rutenbar got in on the home run act in game two, helping to spark a three-run rally in the bottom of the first with her third round-tripper of the season. Hyde scored two batters later when Battaglia doubled before Devyn Findley made it a 3-0 UNF advantage when she brought Battaglia home with a single to left.
Armstrong Atlantic took one of those runs back in the top of the second, but once again a senior was there with an answer for UNF when Parenteau cleared the fence with her 10th home run of the season in the bottom of the second.
Parenteau finally sealed the game with an RBI double to right-center in the bottom of the sixth, capping a five-run rally that ended the contest via the mercy rule. Parenteau finished the game 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a run, while Battaglia had a pair of hits and scored twice.
Findley (19-10) struck out five in the complete-game win.
