The home runs weren't enough to get UNF (29-17, 6-4 A-Sun) past
UNF now has 37 team home runs this year, breaking the record of 36 the team set last year. The Lady Ospreys broke their previous team record at KSU last season.
Hyde's two home runs on the day accounted for UNF's only runs and gave her five home runs this week.
Devyn Findley (16-8) was the hard-luck loser in game one after her defense committed three errors behind her. One of those errors allowed the winning run score in the opener.
Kennesaw took a 1-0 lead in the opener when Sarah Hesterman reached on a one-out error. She later came around to score on a Lyndsay McCurry infield single.
Hyde tied the game with a blast to left field in the sixth inning before Amanda Malcolm drove home the game-winner with one out in the bottom of the seventh.
The Lady Ospreys claimed their first lead of the day in the top of the first inning of game two when Hyde smacked her second home run of the day giving UNF a 1-0 advantage.
That UNF lead evaporated in the bottom of the third when the Lady Owls plated a pair of runs on RBI doubles by Jessica Cross and Corri Connally. Kacie McCloud had a chance to end the inning for the Lady Ospreys, but couldn't hang onto a foul ball she dove for off of Cross' bat. McCloud had the ball in her glove, but it slipped away from her when her glove hit the ground. That gave Cross another opportunity and she made the made the most of it with a double to left-center that scored a KSU run and tied the game.
Connally chased starter Tori Ahern (12-7) from the game one batter later with a double to left that scored Cross.
UNF's best chance to re-take the lead came in the top of the fifth inning when the Lady Ospreys loaded the bases with one out. McCloud, however, lined out before Ashley Parenteau flew out to right field to end the threat. The Lady Ospreys put the first two batters on base to open the top of the sixth, but fell victim to a triple play after Gwen Williams tried to bunt Kara Rutenbar and Hyde into scoring position.
Brittany Matthews (17-3) set UNF down in the top of the seventh to earn the save in the game after taking the win in game one.
UNF has now lost eight-straight to
