UCF rallies late for 7-0 win
JACKSONVILLE
The loss ended a streak for UNF (29-18) that saw it go 31 games without being shutout. UNF's last shutout was a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Notre Dame on Feb. 23.
While one streak ended for UNF, another continued for UCF (31-14), which won its 13th game in a row behind a two-hit shutout from Allison Kime.
Kime (18-7) and UNF's Devyn Findley (16-9) were locked in pitcher's duel until a one-out error helped keep the sixth inning alive for the Knights. Findley was able to record a second out in the inning, but the error that loaded the bases finally came back to burn the Lady Ospreys when Lexi Gresham was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to force in what proved to be the winning run.
Findley was finally chased from the game two batters later before Lindsay Dean provided the big blow in the inning with a grand slam that made it a 7-0 contest.
Kara Rutenbar reached base twice to lead the Lady Osprey offense, reaching on an error in the fourth inning to give UNF its first base runner of the game before collecting the team's second hit of the game with a leadoff single in the seventh inning.
Ashley Battaglia broke up Kime's bid for a no-hitter in the bottom of the fifth when she singled to left-center.
