Coastal Carolina Box Score
JACKSONVILLE
UNF slugged three home runs in the day's opener, a 7-1 win against Stony Brook, before defeating Coastal Carolina for the second day in a row 6-0.
Heather Hyde and
Findley (6-3) opened the day with a two-hitter against Stony Brook and received plenty of help from an offense that hit three home runs in a 7-1 win. Findley helped herself with a two-run home run, while Hyde and Williams also had two-run home runs in the win.
UNF catcher Stephanie Luciani helped her battery mate out in the top of the second inning, driving in the Lady Ospreys' first run of the game with an RBI single.
Findley made it a 3-0 game an inning later when she cracked a home run to left, scoring Hyde after she led off the inning with her second double of the game. Hyde gave UNF a 5-1 advantage two innings later when she belted a two-strike pitch to left, which left little doubt that it would clear the fence after it left her bat.
Williams finally closed the scoring two batters later with her team-leading fifth home run of the season.
Stony Brook's only run of the day was an unearned run that came in the bottom of the fourth. Findley allowed only two hits in the game and struck out four. She gave up only six hits in 15 innings of work over the weekend, earning a pair of wins and a save in the tournament.
Kara Rutenbar continued the home run barrage against Coastal Carolina in the final game of the day, giving the Lady Ospreys a 5-0 advantage in the bottom of the fourth with a two run home run down the left field line.
Those runs were more than enough for Ahern (5-2) who captured her fifth win in a row, giving up only three hits and striking out five. She worked around jams in the third and fourth innings that saw her put runners in scoring position with no outs. Ahern only allowed one runner after the fourth inning to finish the tournament 2-0.
The UNF offense staked Ahern to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning, giving her more than enough runs to work with. Hyde drove in the first run of the inning with a sacrifice fly before Williams walked with the bases loaded and Lauren Pulling was hit by a pitch one batter later to drive in the third run.
Rutenbar added her home run to the UNF totals in the fourth before a Kacie McCloud single to center brought home Ashley Battaglia from second to close the scoring in the fifth. Rutenbar and Findley each had a pair of hits in the win, while Ashley Parenteau scored two of the team's six runs.
