Lady Osprey Softball Weekly

The University of North Florida softball team heads out of town for a pair of tournaments this week, making stops in Charlotte, N.C., and Athens, Ga.

UNF (13-7) begins play Saturday and Sunday at the 49er Invitational on the campus of Charlotte University. The Lady Ospreys will take on both host Charlotte as well as Miami (Ohio) in a pair of games each day. UNF will need to break out its warm-weather clothes while in Charlotte, where temperatures are expected to be in the 40s on Saturday and low 50s on Sunday.

The weather will warm up a little when the team ventures south to take on both 17^th-ranked Georgia and East Carolina in a two-day tournament on March 11 and 12.

The Lady Ospreys will enter the weekend with the longest winning streak (5 games) among Atlantic Sun Conference teams. UNF went 4-0 last week at the JU Softball Tournament, slugging out five home runs as a team, while only allowing five runs in wins against Coastal Carolina (2), Virginia and Stony Brook.

Notables: Three Lady Ospreys – Heather Hyde, Devyn Findley and Ashley Parenteau – were named to the all-tournament team this past weekend at the JU Softball Tournament … Hyde led the Lady Ospreys with a .500 batting average over the weekend … UNF was the only team to finish the tournament undefeated … the team outscored its opponents 21-5 over the weekend, while its pitching staff had a combined ERA of 0.24 … Devyn Findley earned a pair of wins and a save, throwing a two-hitter against Coastal Carolina to close the tournament … Tori Ahern followed her with a pair of wins and a 0.58 ERA … Ahern has now won her last five decisions … Parenteau's weekend began with a walk-off home run against Coastal Carolina, giving her 19 in her career … Gwen Williams also hit a home run and kept her lead in the career home run race with Parenteau … she now has 20 in her career … before Parenteau's home run against Coastal Carolina, UNF had gone 22.1 innings without scoring a run while Findley was in the pitching circle … UNF comes into the week second in the A-Sun with a team ERA of 1.58 … UNF is 31-27 in tournament play on the NCAA Division I level and 11-7 this season.
