Vanessa Sanchez, Maria Melihova earn singles wins
TROY, Ala. - The University of North Florida women's tennis team dropped a match at Sun Belt Conference foe Troy on Saturday afternoon, falling 5-2 at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.
In singles, the Lady Ospreys got wins from Vanessa Sanchez (No. 3) and Maria Melihova (No. 4), while the doubles tandem of Victoria Krook and Ina Durcakova picked up the only doubles victory for the Lady Ospreys (2-2).
"Troy has always been a tough opponent," UNF coach Igal Buberman said. "They have some talented girls, but their main attribute is a great team spirit. We knew that the top two positions were going to be hard to take (in singles), but the bottom four were a very good matchup for us as well. The overall team played a little bit better today, but we need to be more focused on our objectives if we want to take advantage of the opportunities that we are presented with. Our team has great talent, but we need to learn to work together as a group in order to have a successful season."
The Lady Ospreys return to action on Feb. 17 when they play their home opener against Hofstra at the UNF Tennis Complex. Match time is set for 11 a.m.
