Women's Tennis Secures 11th ASUN Championship Title In Program History

FORT MYERS, Fla. – North Florida Women's Tennis captured the ASUN Conference Tournament Championship for the 11th time in program history when it defeated FGCU, 4-2, at FGCU Tennis Complex on Saturday.

North Florida improved to 11-1 all-time in ASUN Championship Finals. It marked North Florida's third ASUN Tournament title in the last six years under Head Coach Catherine Dunagan.

With the win, North Florida caps off the ASUN Championships with an undefeated 25-0 record and is currently the only undefeated Division I program in the nation. The Ospreys dropped just two points in their three ASUN Tournament matches en route to the title.

After dropping the doubles point, North Florida was forced to win four out of the six singles courts.

North Florida earned first-set singles wins from sophomore Aryana Bartlett on court three, sophomore Gabby Goyins on court five and graduate student Anslee Long on court six.

Long tied the score in the match, 1-1, with a win on court six, 6-3, 6-2. Goyins gave the Ospreys a 2-1 lead with a win at the five line, 6-2, 6-3.

Senior Laurie Barendse fell in the first set of her singles match, though fought back with a tightly-contested win in set two, 7-5, to force a third set.

With the match down to the top three singles courts, North Florida earned early third-set leads from Barendse, Bartlett and graduate student Isabel Oliveira.

FGCU tied the match, 2-2, with a win on court four. However, Oliveira allowed North Florida to regain its lead with a come-from-behind victory on court two, 4-6, 6-1, 6-3.

Bartlett clinched the ASUN Championship Final for North Florida with a win on court three, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.
