Lady Ospreys capture first win on Bruins' floor
NASHVILLE
After suffering through its first home losing streak and longest losing streak of the year – three games – it turns out all UNF (10-12, 5-5 A-Sun) needed was a trip to a building where it had never won, losing by an average of 24 points in its previous two trips to Belmont (11-12, 5-4 A-Sun). Bowen's season high of 23 points went a long way in breaking that losing streak. The junior hit 5-of-8 shots beyond the 3-point arc and scored 20 of her points in the second half.
“I thought Jennifer Bowen shot the ball well, and I also thought that rebounds were a big key to this win and we executed well defensively,” UNF head coach Mary Tappmeyer said. “Jennifer Guldager and Brittany Jones both rebounded well tonight.”
UNF held a 48-27 advantage on the boards, pulling down 17 offensive rebounds. Guldager earned her first career double-double in the win, finishing the contest with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Jones also contributed a career-high nine rebounds.
It was Bowen, however, that finally put the Bruins away, answering a pair of

Guldager led UNF in the opening half with eight points.
Sunday hit the opening basket of the second half to tie the game 22-22, before Shennette Sheffield gave UNF the lead back and Bowen scored five in a row to give the Lady Ospreys a 32-26 advantage.
The Bruins climbed back within one with a 7-0 run, but Bowen broke that with a 3-pointer from the left wing to give the Lady Ospreys a 41-37 advantage, then put her team back up seven with a 3-pointer at the 4:44 mark. UNF was able to hang on the rest of the way, fighting off a couple of late 3-pointers by the Bruins, which made it an interesting contest in the final minute of play.
