UNF's Jennifer Bowen tied a career-high for the second contest in a row with five 3-pointers, leading all players with 17 points. While she was patrolling the perimeter for UNF, Shennette Sheffield had things under control beneath the basket, scoring UNF's final six points from the field before Brittany Jones and Shandrea Moore sealed the win at the free throw line.
“We came out focused in the second half and were better on the boards,” UNF head coach Mary Tappmeyer said. “I thought we made some good reads on the offensive end down the stretch to find the open man.”
The Lady Ospreys controlled the boards in the second half, outrebounding the Lady Bisons 21-9 and allowing only five offensive rebounds after Lipscomb grabbed 11 on the offensive end in the opening half. UNF won the overall rebound battle 37-29 with Jones pulling down seven to lead UNF.
Two Lady Bisons – Jillian Partin and Jenna Bartsokas – finished the game in double figures for Lipscomb. Partin led the team with 16 points and nine rebounds, while Bartsokas scored all 10 of her points in the opening half.
UNF made an early move near the 10-minute mark of the first half, grabbling a 17-11 lead after a Tiffany Williams' 3-pointer from the left wing. The Lady Ospreys hit three of their first six attempts from long range and finished with eight on the game, one off their season high. Lipscomb took a 30-29 lead early in the second half, but Bowen answered that with two-straight 3-pointers to spark a 10-0 run that gave the Lady Ospreys a 39-30 advantage. The Lady Bisons pulled as close as three in the final six minutes of play, but Juliemay Syquio squashed the final Lipscomb push with a jumper from the foul line that gave UNF a 51-46 advantage.
UNF shot 50 percent for the game and its 63 points matched a season-high in conference play. The Lady Ospreys were 7-of-8 from the free throw for the game, while Lipscomb was 12-of-21.
UNF's four-game road trip continues next weekend when the Lady Ospreys head down the road to take on
