Lady Ospreys wrap Nashville visit

The University of North Florida women's basketball team broke one trend in Nashville on Saturday, but is hoping another one will continue when it takes on Lipscomb Monday night.

UNF (10-12, 5-5 A-Sun) captured its first ever win at Belmont on Saturday with a 57-52 win at the Curb Event Center. Jennifer Bowen scored a career-high 23 points, while Jennifer Guldager posted a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds. The Lady Ospreys dominated on the boards pulling down 48 rebounds compared to 27 for the Bruins.

While UNF walked away from the Curb Center without a win in its previous two visits to Nashville, the Lady Ospreys are 2-0 at Allen Arena, capturing wins at Lipscomb the last two years. Those two wins gave UNF its first conference wins on the road during the 2005-06 and 2006-07 seasons.

UNF has a 4-0 edge in its series with Lipscomb, but all four games have been close, with UNF never winning by more than 11 points. Two of those four games have been decided by three points or less.

Lipscomb (6-18, 4-6 A-Sun) is looking to bounce back from a 61-48 loss to Jacksonville on Saturday that saw the Lady Bisons outshoot JU 30-5 at the free throw line. The Dolphins, however, outscored Lipscomb 42-10 in the paint.

UNF is 2-1 in its last three games in Nashville.

Quoting Coach Tappmeyer: “They are a very scrappy team that is much improved from last year. They are one of the better free throw shooting teams in the conference and we can't afford to put them on the line as much as they were on Saturday. This will be a great test for us to see how we can respond on the road after our win at Belmont on Saturday.”
