Lady Ospreys charge back after beginning day in fifth
DAVIDSON, N.C. - After a furious charge on the final day of the Davidson Invitational on Sunday, the University of North Florida took third place at the eight-team event.
The Lady Ospreys began the day in fifth place, but several key individual finishes combined with competitive showings in relays helped the team make up ground.
UNF ended the meet with an exciting finish, taking second in the 4x100 free relay with a time of 3:41.81, which gave the Lady Ospreys 34 points. The team was comprised of sophomores Lyn Ann Nelson and Sara Taylor, junior Emily Shaw and sophomore Megan Boudreau.
Senior diver Emily Eisenhower came through big for UNF, snatching first in the 1-meter competition with a score of 239.90 and finished third in the 3-meter competition, putting up a score of 225.65. Her performances gave the Lady Ospreys a combined 46 points.
Nelson also had a top-flight showing in the 500- free, taking third place. On Saturday, Nelson clocked in at a season-best 1:53.87 in the 200-free preliminaries to take first, then bested that time in the finals with a showing of 1:53.09. The time helped her take second place in an event she won at the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association meet last season.
UNF had 13 season-best times recorded over the weekend. Shaw improved her time in the 100 back, doing so in the preliminary on Saturday with a time of 1:01.35. She also had a new season best in the 200 back, clocking in at 2:12.45 for a fourth-place finish on Sunday. Freshman Gala Poon also had a new season-best time in the event, clocking in at 2:18.05.
The Lady Ospreys will now enter their winter training in preparation for the second half of the season. UNF will return to competition on Saturday, Jan. 3, for an 11 a.m. dual against UNC Wilmington at UNF Aquatic Center.
