UNF visits Southeastern Louisiana at 4 p.m. on Saturday
Â
Hammond, La. – After the University of North Florida women's basketball team put up a strong showing against nationally ranked Florida State on Tuesday, the Lady Ospreys have their eyes set on picking up their first win of the season when they visit Southeastern Louisiana at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
UNF (0-2) jumped out to an early lead against the Seminoles, but the 21st-ranked team flexed its muscles down the stretch to leave UNF Arena with a 60-49 win. This weekend's matchup will be the first true road game for the Lady Ospreys, with the team's season-opening 68-56 loss against Bethune-Cookman being played at Embry-Riddle University.
Saturday's contest will also mark the second-ever meeting between UNF and the Lady Lions (0-2). Last season, the Lady Osprey defense dominated and helped the team grab a 51-37 victory when Southeastern visited UNF Arena. The Lady Lions' 37 points was the lowest the team scored all season and the lowest UNF allowed all season (also allowed 37 against USC Upstate).
The Lady Lions opened their season with two on the road, falling at Houston and New Orleans. Winners of 11-straight home openers, Southeastern makes its home debut on Saturday.

She also grabbed a team-high seven rebounds against FSU. Kirkland has come off the bench in both games, contributing an average of 7.5 points and 4.5 boards. She dished out six assists and buried her first 3-pointer against the Seminoles.
Quoting Coach Tappmeyer: "We need to match the intensity we brought against Florida State. Our defense kept us in the game. I also think our girls now realize the approach has to be different on the road. They see that going in as the underdog means they must be prepared to do all the little things right. This is a game we really need to win."
Gameday Notables: UNF is in its final season of the four-year transition into Division I … the Lady Ospreys have never opened the season with three-straight losses…the Lady Ospreys have lost their first two games of the season the past two years (the only two times in program history) … the Lady Ospreys are coming off their best finish since entering the transitional period, finishing with a 13-16 overall record and 8-8 A-Sun record in 2007-08 … UNF has never lost to a team from Louisiana (only meeting was with Southeastern last season) … Bowen and Guldager will steer the program once again, having been with the team through every season of the reclassification process.
