Freshman LynAnn Nelson continued her stellar debut season with three first-place finishes, which was highlighted with a new school record time of 10:30.88 in the 1000-free. The time broke Heather Rasor's previous record of 10:33.23. Nelson also won the 400-IM (4:40.76) and 500-free (5:15.43). Her time in the 400-IM was the seventh-fastest in UNF history.
“I knew she had the ability to break the record (in the 1000-free),” head coach Beth Harrell said. “She was getting excited about the race early in the week. LynAnn thinks through her races before she swims them and is very good at targeting her goal. It's exciting for us to be breaking records during the dual meet season.”
Harrell said junior Caroline Poling put together her best performance in over a year, with wins in the 200-butterfly and 200-medley relay. Her time of 2:10.49 in the 200-fly was a season-best.
Freshman Megan Boudreau picked up a pair of victories with top finishes in the 200-free (1:57.58) and 100-free (55.10). She was also on the winning 400-medley relay team.
The Lady Ospreys also got season-best times from freshman Becky Ryerson (26.12 in the 50-free), Sara Taylor (5:18.12 in the 500-free), Rachael Branston (56.98 in the 100-free) and Krissy Harms (2:16.33 in the 200-back and 4:43.56 in the 400-IM).
“I thought they swam well today, and I was pleasantly surprised,” Harrell said. “It was good to see that for the end of the semester.”
Emily Eisenhower and Debbie Rapoza split the top finishes in 1 and 3-meter diving. Rapoza's score of 265.65 in the 1-meter competition put her in first, while Eisenhower's mark of 262.45 in 3-meter helped her finish in first.
The Lady Ospreys will take the month off to train in preparation for its next meet on Saturday, Jan. 5 at the UNF Aquatic Center in a double-dual against No. 20 Florida State and UNC Wilmington, who is ranked 20th in the mid-major poll. The meet will begin at 11 a.m.
