
Softball Falls In Doubleheader At Florida Gulf Coast

FORT MYERS, Fla. -Â North Florida dropped a doubleheader to Florida Gulf Coast at FGCU Softball Complex in Fort Myers, Fla., on Saturday.

Game one of the doubleheader remained scoreless through four innings with sophomore right-handed pitcher Taylor Cook tossing three and two-thirds no-hit innings.

North Florida took an early lead in the fifth with sophomore outfielder Alyssa Jones coming around to score off a passed ball and throwing error from the FGCU catcher.

The Eagles would use a pair of extra base hits to plate two runs in the bottom of the frame and take a 2-1 lead.

Junior infielder Bella Cimino roped a one out double down the left field line but was unable to come around to score as Florida Gulf Coast recorded the final two outs to secure game one of the doubleheader.

FGCU struck first in game two of the doubleheader with a run in the first inning.

Sophomore outfielder Kennedy McQuillan belted a two out double to right center in the fourth inning. A fielding error and a walk would load the bases, but the Ospreys failed to capitalize, as FGCU held onto its 1-0 advantage.Â

The Eagles would add another run in the fifth inning with an RBI double to reach the eventual final.
