JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida Baseball secured the series win in Game 2 of the River City Rumble at Jacksonville, 11-4, at John Sessions Stadium on Saturday.
It marked North Florida's seventh straight win in ASUN Conference play. With the victory, North Florida remains in first place in the ASUN Graphite Division and currently holds the best conference record out of its 12 teams.
North Florida's 7-1 start to ASUN play marks its best since its Division I inception in 2006.
All nine Ospreys who were in the starting lineup reached base safely. It marked the ninth game North Florida has scored 10 runs or more in a game this season.
North Florida's bats were hot early en route to a 5-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Junior infielder Mitchell Collins and junior infielder Mathew Farner notched back-to-back singles in UNF's first two at bats. Collins crossed home on an error to open the scoring and give the Ospreys 1-0 advantage.
Sophomore utility player Seth Alford extended North Florida's lead with an RBI single through the left side in the top of the first frame to put UNF ahead, 2-0. Sophomore outfielder Carter White capped off North Florida's five-run first inning with a three-run bases-clearing double to the gap in right field.
Collins and redshirt junior utility player Jackson Toberman each scored on a pair of wild pitches in the top of the second inning, allowing North Florida to command a 7-0 lead.
Jacksonville responded with one run in the bottom of the second frame to cut its deficit to six.
Senior catcher Santiago Ordonez increased North Florida's lead to 8-1 in the top of the third frame with an RBI double down the line in left field. Redshirt freshman outfielder Sean Benjamin capped off a three-run third inning for UNF with a bases-loaded walk to put North Florida ahead, 10-1.
Farner notched his third single of the game in the top of the fourth inning to give North Florida an 11-1 advantage.Â
Jacksonville avoided the run-rule with one run in the fourth inning and two in the seventh. However, it wasn't enough to overcome the eventual final margin.
