JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida Baseball swept its series over Jacksonville in the River City Rumble, 12-6, at John Sessions Stadium on Saturday.
The weekend marked North Florida's first sweep over Jacksonville since 2021. North Florida has now scored 10 runs or more in 10 of its 28 games, including eight games scoring 12 runs or more.
Much like they were in Game 2 of the series, North Florida's bats were hot early. Junior outfielder Gialdri Gomez notched an infield single to give the Ospreys a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.Â
Redshirt junior utility player Jackson Toberman belted a two-run home run in the top of the third inning to extend North Florida's lead to 3-0. Toberman hit his second homer of the game and fifth of the season in the top of the fifth frame, allowing North Florida to command a 4-0 advantage.
Freshman infielder Drew Buchanan and junior infielder Mathew Farner each worked back-to-back walks with the bases loaded in the top of the sixth inning that allowed North Florida to command a 6-0 edge.
Senior right-handed pitcher Ryan Furey was solid in his starting role. Furey dealt six scoreless innings and allowed just one hit while notching three strikeouts.
Redshirt junior utility player Boone Hosey roped an RBI triple in the left-center field gap in the top of the seventh inning to increase North Florida's lead to 7-0. Redshirt freshman outfielder Sean Benjamin added an insurance run with a sacrifice fly to cap off the top of the seventh. Benjamin's sacrifice fly gave North Florida an 8-0 advantage.
Jacksonville responded with four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Toberman tallied his fourth RBI of the game with a single through the right side in the top of the eighth frame to put North Florida ahead, 9-4. Gomez added a run in the top of the eighth with a sacrifice fly.Â
Redshirt sophomore outfielder Carter White capped off UNF's four-run eighth inning and gave the Ospreys a 12-4 lead with a double down the line in left field. White's double brought the score to its eventual final margin.
Junior infielder Mitchell Collins had a solid day in his leadoff role. Collins went 3-6 with two runs. Toberman joined Collins with a three-hit outing, going 3-6 with four RBI and three runs. Gomez, Hosey and senior catcher Santiago Ordonez all tallied multi-hit performances in the win.
