
Softball Downs Auburn In Five Innings, 11-3

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida softball earned its first win of the 2026 season in run-rule fashion against Auburn, 11-3, in five innings on Thursday afternoon.
UNF took down the Tigers for its first win against a Power Four team in regular season play since defeating Iowa, 6-1, in the UNF-JU Classic on Feb. 25, 2024. The Ospreys now have earned Power Four wins in each of its past three victories dating back to its pair of wins against Virginia in the NCAA Regional Tournament.
Auburn entered the season receiving 16 votes in the Preseason ESPN.com/USA Softball national rankings. They are one of five teams that the Ospreys will face this season that received at least one vote in the Preseason Top 25 rankings, as UNF will play against Florida, Grand Canyon, Florida State and UCF.
Taylor Cook started the game in the circle and went through two innings unscathed with a pair of strikeouts. UNF opened the first inning of the season with four runs, as two runs scored on a fielding error to go along with a bases-loaded walk drawn by Caiden Oliva and a sacrifice fly from Kelsey Vogel.
The Tigers came roaring back in the third inning with three runs, but Kate Peters forced a pop-up with the bases loaded to get out of the inning up by one run. UNF immediately responded with an RBI from Kennedy McQuillan on a pinch-hit appearance and an RBI single from Hallie Langford.
Two more Ospreys scored in the fourth inning off another error from Auburn on top of a fielder's choice score and an RBI single from Grace Shaw in the fifth. Three up and three down in the fifth by Peters forced the run-rule home victory for North Florida in its first game of the season.
