Track And Field Records Highest ASUN Indoor Championship Placements In Program History

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – North Florida Track and Field earned its highest team placements with runner-up finishes at the ASUN Indoor Championships on Saturday.
The men's team scored 111 total points for their second-place finish with three First Team All-ASUN placements and 11 All-ASUN selections. The women's team followed with 106.5 total points for second overall with two First Team All-ASUN placements and six All-ASUN selections.Â
Junior Rey Hernandez was named ASUN Men's Indoor Track and Field MVP.Â
Junior Tyshone Bolden and Hernandez had outstanding performances with first-place finishes in their respective events. Bolden was the top finisher in the Men's High Jump at 2.07m, while Hernandez posted the top Men's 200m time with 21.12.
Nicole Shepherd had a 1.73m mark in the Women's High Jump for first place. Senior Ella Chandler was the other individual event winner for the women's squad clocking 2:09.04 in the 800m race.
The fifth top placement from the Ospreys came at the end of the meet with a first-place finish from the Men's 4x400m Relay team. Sophomore Matthew Groves, redshirt senior Troy Williams, sophomore Rashad Hemissi and junior Avaunt Ortiz turned in a time of 3:14.97, while junior Gabby Johnson, junior Navia Casa, Chandler and junior Katerina Natsiopoulou placed second in the Women's 4x400m Relay.Â
Other Second Team All-ASUN honorees included Kaleb Johnson (Men's High Jump), Hernandez (Men's 60mH), Ortiz (Men's 400m) and Nastiopoulou (Women's 800m).
Third Team All-ASUN selections for the Ospreys are Renske Drenten (Women's High Jump), Rylie Jackson (Women's Triple Jump), Jayvin Strouble (Men's High Jump), Matthew Groves (Men's 400m), Hernandez (Men's 60m), Rashad Hemissi (Men's 800m) and Matthew Groves (Men's 200m).
"It was a historical day by both porgrams with runner up finishes at the ASUN Indoor Championships," Jeff Pigg, Director of Cross Country / Track and Field said. "Rey [Hernandez] being named the ASUN Men's Indoor Track and Field MVP was big time. He did the work and believed in himself and Coach Wells. He really stepped up to lead this team."
The Ospreys will return for outdoor season as hosts of the River City Relays from March 19-20 at Visit Jax Track at Hodges Stadium.
