JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida softball came back down 2-1 in the fifth inning to defeat Marshall, 4-3, in a midweek battle on Wednesday evening at UNF Softball Complex.
Grace Shaw blasted the first home run of the season for the Ospreys with two outs to drive home three runs in the fifth. The go-ahead bomb was enough insurance to complete the game at home in a one-run victory against the Thundering Herd.
It was the third home run of Shaw's career, as she now has nine hits, eight RBI and a .450 BA on the season. Her heroics helped UNF improve to a 6-1 overall record to start the season for its best start since 2022.
Taylor Cook spun 6.1 innings in the circle with six strikeouts to pick up her second win of the year. Kadyn Camper pulled out the final two outs on four pitches in the seventh to secure the first save of the season for the UNF pitching staff.
Kalyn McCarthy scored the first run of the game in the third inning after hitting a triple down the left field line and taking home on an errant throw on a steal attempt by Hallie Langford. Marshall responded in the top of the fifth with a two-run homer to left field to take a one-run lead.
In the bottom of the fifth, McCarthy was thrown out at the plate on a ball put in play by Addie Keef, but Shaw hit the go-ahead three-run homer to go back on top, 4-2.
Marshall scored a run in the seventh inning to make it a one-score game with the tying run on third base. Camper forced the ground ball to Cimino at shortstop to record the final out and give the Ospreys their sixth win of the 2026 season.
