
Waldon Posts Career-High 24 Points, Women's Basketball Falls At West Georgia

CARROLLTON, Ga. – North Florida Women's Basketball fell at West Georgia, 76-61, inside The Coliseum on Thursday night.
Junior guard Alonya Waldon led the way offensively for UNFÂ with a career-high 24 points and a career-high five steals on 6-for-15 from the field, 2-for-6 from three and 10-for-14 from the charity stripe in 26 minutes.
It marked the first game of her career with at least 20 points. It was also her sixth game of the season and 17th career game with 10 or more points.
Sophomore guard Jamisyn Stinson and junior guard Elle Blatchford each tacked on eight points, while sophomore forward Nicole Carreno contributed six points on 2-for-2 from the field and a team-best +14 rating.
UNF opened the contest on a 7-2 run, sparked by five points from Waldon. The Wolves responded with a run of their own to make the score 21-11 after the first quarter. The Wolves would take a 43-22 lead into the halftime break.
In the first half, Waldon, making her first start since Dec. 4 at Georgia Southern, led all Ospreys with eight points, while freshman forward Dezuray McGill tacked on six rebounds.
The Ospreys started the third quarter with a 13-5 run to cut into the deficit, before the Wolves took a 63-39 advantage to the fourth quarter.
UNF outscored its opponent 22-13 in the fourth quarter highlighted by a 22-4 scoring run to close out the contest.
North Florida stays on the road in ASUN Conference action, facing Queens in Charlotte, N.C., on Saturday, Jan. 10. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m., on ESPN+.
