
Gayman Records Double-Double, Men's Basketball Falls To Stetson

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – North Florida Men's Basketball fell to Stetson, 84-77, at UNF Arena on Thursday.
Five Ospreys scored double figures with sophomore guard Kent Jackson leading all Ospreys with 20 points on 7-14 from the field and 5-11 from three, in addition to four assists and two rebounds in 36 minutes. He has now scored 20 or more points in five games this season. Jackson has also now made five three-pointers or more in five games this season.
Graduate forward Dalton Gayman posted an 18-point and 10-rebound double-double on 7-11 from the field, in addition to three assists and a steal in 27 minutes. His 18 points and 10 rebounds both tied career-highs. It marked the 10th time this season Gayman registered 10 or more points.
Senior guard Kamrin Oriol notched 12 points, five assists and four rebounds in 40 minutes. Oriol has now scored 10 or more points in 21 of 22 games this season. Redshirt sophomore guard/forward Mason Lee and graduate guard Devin Hines rounded out North Florida's double-digit scorers with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Five-straight points by Jackson in less than one minute gave North Florida its first lead of the game, 9-8, at the 14:49-minute mark of the first first half. Jackson's scoring stretch featured a mid-range jumper and a deep three. Stetson took back the lead on the ensuing possession, though North Florida regained an 11-10 advantage with a layup by Lee with 13:55 remaining in the first half.
A pair of free throws each from Oriol and Hines shrunk a 30-20 deficit for North Florida down to six at the 5:11-minute mark in the first half. A corner-three by Jackson just over one minute later capped off a 9-2 run as North Florida narrowly trailed 32-29 at the under-four media timeout of the first half.
Hines connected on his second three-pointer of the first half to knot the score at 34 with less than two minutes left before halftime. Dalton knocked down two free-throws in the final seconds of the first half to cut Stetson's advantage to 39-36 entering the break.
North Florida received 20 points from its bench to Stetson's four and connected on 10-12 from the free-throw line in a first half that featured two ties and four lead changes. Gayman led the way offensively for North Florida in the initial 20 minutes of action with a team-high 11 points on 4-8 from the field, in addition to five rebounds and three assists in 13 minutes.
Back-to-back threes from Lee and Jackson saw North Florida trail 44-42 at the 17:42-minute mark of the second half. An 8-2 run that featured a pair of shifty layups by Oriol brought its deficit to 62-55 with 10:25 minutes left in the second half.Â
Gayman banked an and-one layup and made the free-throw to cut North Florida's deficit to 72-66 with 4:08 minutes left in regulation. Jackson buried his fifth three of the game with 1:53 minutes remaining in the second half to cut it to four.
North Florida outscored Stetson 29-10 in bench points. Gayman and Hines combined for 28 of 29 bench points.
North Florida remains at UNF Arena to host Lipscomb on Saturday, Jan. 31 at 2 p.m. ET.
