
Oriol Posts Career-High 35 Points, Men's Basketball Falls To Lipscomb

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Senior guard Kamrin Oriol and sophomore guard Kent Jackson combined for 67 points, but North Florida Men's Basketball ultimately fell to Lipscomb, 100-94, at UNF Arena on Saturday.
Oriol turned in a career-high 35 points on 11-20 from the field, 7-12 from three and 6-6 from the free-throw line, in addition to 10 assists and three rebounds in 36 minutes. It marked the second time this season Oriol notched a point-assist double-double. He has now scored 30 or more points in four games this season. Oriol has scored 20 or more points in six of the last seven games and 12 games this season.
Jackson finished with 32 points on 8-19 from the field, 8-17 from deep and 8-8 from the free-throw line, in addition to five rebounds and two steals in 36 minutes. It marked the sixth time this season Jackson has made five or more three-pointers and it was his second time scoring 30 or more points.
Redshirt sophomore guard/forward Mason Lee rounded out the Ospreys' double-digit scorers with his first-career double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds on 8-11 from the field and 1-3 from three, in addition to two assists in 32 minutes.
Oriol scored four-straight heading into the initial first-half media-timeout. North Florida went on a 14-3 run over a four-minute stretch to push its lead to 17-11 at the 13:19-minute mark of the first half. North Florida secured a 19-17 lead into the under-12-minute media timeout.Â
Jackson's fifth three of the first half forced a Lipscomb timeout and extended the lead to 33-23 for North Florida. North Florida maintained the 10-point margin and led 40-30 at the under-four-minute media timeout.Â
North Florida opened its largest lead of the first half at 42-30 with 3:14 minutes left before halftime.
North Florida led 45-36 at the half. Jackson turned in 22 points in the first half on 6-13 from the field, 6-11 from the field and 4-4 from the free-throw line.Â
Lipscomb took the lead at the 61-60 at the 12:50-minute mark of the second half.
Oriol buried a three at the top of the arc to tie the score at 74 with 7:44 minutes left in the second half.
Trailing 90-83, Oriol buried his seventh three to cut the deficit to 90-86 with 3:39 minutes left in regulation. With just over one minute left in the second half, Jackson knocked down his eighth three-pointer to shrink Lipscomb's lead to 97-93.
Graduate student guard/forward Dalton Gayman made a free-throw with 41 seconds left to make it a one-possession game at 97-94.
North Florida outrebounded Lipscomb 36-27 and outscored its visitors 15-8 in second-chance points.
North Florida enters the final month of the regular season with a four-game road trip that opens in Carrollton, Ga. at West Georgia at The Coliseum on Thursday, Feb. 5 at 7 p.m. ET.Â
