GAINESVILLE, Fla. - North Florida track and field took down more program records on its second and final day of competition at the ACSEC Invitational in the Alachua County Sports and Events Center on Friday afternoon.
The Ospreys rewrote a pair of program records with Rey Hernandez surpassing the 60m mark, while Colin Maxwell showed out in the heptathlon. Hernandez surpassed teammate Jonathan Bailey's mark of 6.86 set last season during the preliminary round, while Maxwell finished out the last two events of the heptathlon to total 4,103.
Maxwell placed fourth in the heptathlon earning top-10 finishes in five of the seven events. The sophomore transfer earned personal-best marks in the 60m, shot put and high jump, while debuting marks in the 60mH, pole vault and 1000m for indoor season.
Hernandez set his fourth indoor program-best time in two weeks between the 60m, 60mH and 200m races. Â The junior now holds four indoor track records for the Ospreys and nine program records overall.
Hernandez also held the best time in the 60m hurdles preliminary round with a time of 7.99. In the 60m race, both Cole Dauper and Jonathan Bailey earned times under seven seconds in the 60m to join Hernandez in the top 11 overall.
Ivory Edgecomb had stellar runs in her collegiate debut placing fourth in both the prelim and final races for the 60m. She clocked 7.63 to qualify for the final race and beat that mark with a 7.61 time to finish the day for the sprinters.
From the distance side, Madeline Castillo made her indoor 5000m race debut with a top finish at 17:27.35. She would have Laci Watford, Cohen Kooker and Annika Buser right behind her for four Ospreys in the top five.
Colton Lawson led the way for the men in the 5000m with a runner-up placement that saw a personal-best time of 14:50.29. Alejandro Romagosa notched fourth as well at 14:55.54.
Over the course of both days, North Florida totaled five program records broken, seven first-place finishes, 21 top-three finishes and 26 lifetime-best marks.
The Ospreys return to Gainesville, Fla., one last time for their regular season finale at the Visit Gainesville Indoor Classic on Friday, Feb. 6, at the Alachua County Sports and Events Center.
"Today was a great finish to the weekend. The momentum from Friday carried over and everyone ran a season best or PR today. It's great to see everyone's work paying off."
