DeLAND, Fla. – North Florida baseball fell to Stetson, 11-5, in the series opener at Melching Field at Conrad Park on Friday evening.
The Ospreys built some early momentum, grabbing a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning.
Carter White led off the inning with a double down the right field line and advanced to third via a wild pitch.
Santiago Ordonez drove him in on the ensuing at bat with an RBI single to right field.
Stetson gained control with a two-run home run in the bottom half of the second frame. From there, the Hatters never trailed the rest of the way largely behind an eight-run third inning that gave Stetson a 10-1 advantage. Nevertheless,
Seth Alford drove an RBI single to right field in the top of the fourth inning to make it 10-2.
Despite the game only going seven frames, the Ospreys showed signs of fight in the top of the sixth. Ordonez sent a one-out double to left field and
Drew Leinenbach drove him in with a two-run homer to cut UNF's deficit 12-4. Alford followed later in the same frame with a solo home run to make it 12-5 but that was as close as the Ospreys would get to making a comeback.
