DeLAND, Fla. – North Florida baseball dropped the second game of its weekend series against Stetson, 3-1, in what was a pitcher's duel at Melching Field at Conrad Park on Saturday evening.
UNF starting pitcher Clay Hendry was remarkable, dealing four shutout innings to open the contest. However, the Ospreys were unable to get the bats going largely due to Stetson starting pitcher Jonathan Gonzalez holding North Florida scoreless for the first eight-plus innings while throwing 119 pitches and 11 strikeouts.
Stetson struck first in the bottom of the fifth inning when Juan De La Cruz drove an RBI single to center field to give the Hatters a 1-0 lead. North Florida's deficit grew to 3-0 in the seventh frame, however, the Ospreys were able to muster a rally in the top of the ninth to avoid being shutout.
Cade Bush tallied his second hit of the night with a double down the left field line. Mitchell Collins roped a single to right-center field on the ensuing at bat to score Bush, though that was as close as UNF would get to creating some late game heroics.
