
Men's Basketball Falls To Prairie View A&M In Back-And-Forth Second Half

PENSACOLA, Fla. – North Florida Men's Basketball fell late in a back-and-forth second half to Prairie View A&M, 85-82, in game two of the Pensacola Invitational at Pensacola Bay Center on Sunday afternoon.Â

Senior guard Kamrin Oriol notched 20 points on 5-8 from the field, 3-4 from three and 7-8 from the free-throw line, in addition to seven assists and two rebounds in 35 minutes. Oriol has now scored 20 or more points in three of the last four games and 10 or more points in all six games.Â

Redshirt sophomore guard/forward Mason Lee added 15 points and eight rebounds on 4-5 from the field, 3-4 from three and 4-4 from the free-throw line in 26 minutes.Â

North Florida led 10-7 at the initial first-half media timeout. Freshman guard/forward Trey Cady knocked down a pullup three to open the largest lead of the game at 42-27 with 2:05 minutes left in the first half. North Florida led by double digits for the final 7:51 minutes of the first half.Â

North Florida connected on 65.4 percent from the field and 61.5 percent from three in the first half. Oriol turned in 10 points in the first half.

After Prairie View A&M cut the margin to one possession, North Florida answered with a 7-0 run to push its lead back to 52-43 at the 16:47-minute mark of the second half. North Florida headed into the under eight-minute media timeout in the second half with a 67-60 lead.

With the score tied at 71, Lee drained a three to push the lead back to a one-possession margin with 4:03 minutes left. Freshman guard/forward BJ Plummer buried a three right in front of the North Florida bench to tie the game at 78 with 1:58 minutes left in the second half. Lee added a pair of free throws to tie the score at 80 entering the final minute of regulation.Â

North Florida returns to the court to host Trinity College of Jacksonville at UNF Arena on Saturday, Nov. 29 at 5 p.m. ET.
