Spencer & Gibson Put Up 33 Points in Road Effort
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - North Florida women's basketball (4-10, 0-1) had elite scoring performances from its dynamic duo of Jazmine Spencer and Jasmynne Gibson, but it wasn't enough in the road loss to Lipscomb (8-4, 1-0) to open up conference play in the Atlantic Sun on Thursday evening.
Gibson had an incredible individual performance with 16 points and 14 rebounds for her second career double-double. It was the first double-double by an Osprey in an ASUN opener since Jazz Bond in 2020.
The Ospreys were led by Spencer in scoring with 17 points, including a pair of threes and a 7-for-7 mark from the free throw line. Grace Hunter also added six points in her return to the starting lineup for UNF.
North Florida | 4-10, 0-1
Lipscomb | 8-4, 1-0
First Half: The Ospreys were in a hole early down seven points, but Sarah Taub scored the first points with a layup...Hunter was back like she never left in the starting lineup with a three-pointer, followed with a jumper Helena Rafnsdottir to cut the deficit to four...Jamisyn Stinson took home a fast-break score, along with Spencer adding an and-one bucket to keep it within single digits...another fast-break from Gibson added two more points for UNF...another trey from Hunter sent the Ospreys into the break with a 49-19 score.
Second Half: Eklund opened up the third quarter with a pair of free throws and a layup on a turnover to add on more points...Gibson followed her lead with back-to-back layups and a made free throw to continue a good run for the Ospreys...scores from Spencer and Kaila Rougier took UNF into the final 10 minutes of play...the fourth quarter was dominated by UNF with Spencer starting off with the first eight points of the period, including a pair of threes...Gibson and Rougier answered with more with a three and a jumper to go on a 10-0 run...another jumper from Gibson and free throws down the stretch helped cut into the Bison lead, but it wasn't enough in the ASUN opener.

"Hats off to Lipscomb. Tonight's game was two five-out, motion teams against each other and it was clear which group played with more confidence and efficiency. My coaching staff worked really hard to prepare for this game, but our 18 first-half turnovers showed that we did not show up ready to play. We made adjustments and won the second half, but that's become a common theme for us all season. We need our leaders to be leaders from the jump."
