Rising Sophomore Averaged 17.1 PPG Over Two Tournaments
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Agnes Svansdottir represented her country of Iceland this summer racking up U-20 Nordic Championship Tournament MVP and U-20 FIBA Eurobasket Division B All-Tournament Team honors.
"I am so proud of the way Agnes [Svansdottir] represented her home country, as well as North Florida Basketball abroad this summer! She had an incredible opportunity to lead her national team to an unprecedented run in the U-20 Eurobasket tournament. We got to watch all the games and cheer her on from Jacksonville," said head coach Erika Lambert. "Agnes shot the ball well, facilitated plays like the mature player that she is and she mixed it up on the boards too. This was Iceland's first time in the final four of that tournament and Agnes played a huge role in making history there. We know she will continue to do the same at UNF!"
The Keflavik, Iceland, native scored 55 points over a three-game span during the Nordic Championship with games against Sweden, Ireland and Denmark. She was recognized with Tournament MVP distinction after stellar performances, as she scored 20 more total points than the next highest scorer on her team.
A few weeks later, Svansdottir competed alongside the U-20 Icelandic team again in Division B of the U-20 FIBA Eurobasket Tournament. She averaged 16.5 PPG, which ranked third among all players in the tournament, with 3.3 RPG and 2.0 APG.
Svandottir reached double figures in five of the six games played in the FIBA tourney with the highest scoring total being 26 points against Ireland with five made three-pointers. She also recorded six rebounds and four assists in the opening game and continued her efficiency from downtown shooting 39.6% from three at the tournament.
The rising sophomore will return to the Ospreys for the 2024-25 season after showing great potential as a wing player this past season. She played in 11 games last season after joining the team in early January before conference play and averaged 4.5 PPG and 1.5 RPG in her appearances.
