Women's Basketball Drops Road Game To Georgia Southern

STATESBORO, Ga. – North Florida Women's Basketball fell to Georgia Southern, 70-44, at the Jack and Ruth Ann Hill Convocation Center in Statesboro, Ga., on Thursday night.Â
The score was tied at 5-5 at the first quarter media timeout. After Georgia Southern went on 7-0 run out of the timeout, junior guard Elle Blatchford knocked down a corner three to answer for North Florida and help cut the margin to 14-8 at the end of the first quarter.Â
Blatchford led all Ospreys with 10 points on 4-8 from the field and 2-4 from three in 24 minutes. It marked her second game of the season and 19th career game with 10 or more points.
Freshman forward Dezuray McGill and sophomore guard Jamisyn Stinson each contributed eight points. Redshirt sophomore guard Alexa Washington tacked on five points and matched her career-highs with four assists and three steals in 26 minutes.
Georgia Southern secured its first double-digit lead at the 5:04-minute mark in the second quarter and continued to build its margin to 38-18 at the half. North Florida connected on 50.0 percent from the field and from behind the arc in the third quarter and battled Georgia Southern to a one-score difference in the period at 17-15.
Overall, nine different Ospreys entered the scoring column.
North Florida remains on the road when it travels to Asheville, N.C., to take on UNC Asheville at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6 in Kimmel Arena. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
