
Alonya Waldon Hits Buzzer Beater To Help Women's Basketball Take Down Campbell, 56-53

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Junior guard Alonya Waldon drained a game winner from right inside half court to send North Florida Women's Basketball past Campbell, 56-53, its second game at the North Florida Invitational in UNF Arena on Saturday.
North Florida is now 3-4 and 3-0 at home on the season. The Ospreys won both of their North Florida Invitational games after a 61-57 win against Bethune Cookman on Friday, Nov. 28.
After Campbell sank two free throws to tie the game at 53-53 with four seconds left, Waldon dribbled right inside the half court line and heaved a three that banked in for the win.
Waldon finished with a team-high 17 points and three steals on 4-9 from the field, 3-7 from three and 6-8 from the free throw line in 22 minutes. It marked her second-consecutive game with 10 or more points and her fourth this season.
Freshman forward Dezuray McGill posted a 14 points, in addition to eight rebounds in 34 minutes. Redshirt junior forward Georgi Buzzeti notched a season-high nine points.
North Florida opened up an 11-6 lead at the first-quarter media timeout. The initial 11 points were compiled by six points from Waldon and five points from McGill.
North Florida held Campbell scoreless for the final 4:47 minutes of the first quarter and the six points allowed in the first quarter were the fewest by an opponent this season.
Redshirt sophomore guard Alexa Washington beat the first-quarter buzzer on a deep three to secure a 14-6 lead for North Florida at the end of the initial 10 minutes. Four of North Florida's five made field goals before the quarter break were from three.
North Florida maintained a 23-17 margin at the second-quarter media timeout.
The score was tied at 27 entering the halftime break. McGill led all Ospreys with 12 points at the half, her second-straight game with 10 or more points and her third this season.
North Florida held Campbell to 0-9 from the field and scoreless for the first 6:30 minutes of the third quarter. Campbell went on a 7-0 run to take a 36-35 lead with 1:27 minutes left in the third quarter. Campbell held a 38-37 lead heading into the final quarter.
Campbell pushed its lead to 49-44 with 4:23 minutes left in the fourth quarter.
North Florida then answered with an 8-0 run to retake a 52-51 lead with 30.9 seconds left.
Washington added a free throw before Campbell knocked in two of their own to tie the contest at 53-53 before Waldon's three-pointer to win the game.
The Ospreys held an 10-6 advantage in second chance points.
North Florida travels to Statesboro, Ga. to battle Georgia Southern on Thursday, Dec. 4 at 6 p.m. at Hanner Fieldhouse. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
