
Track & Field Bring Home Multiple Medals on Day One of ASUN Indoor Championships

Hernandez, Springer Also Overturn School Records
GAINESVILLE, Fla. - North Florida track & field took home several medals, lifetime marks, and finals qualifications on the first day of the ASUN Indoor Championships on Friday afternoon.
Camden Springer and Rey Hernandez both updated the record books for a consecutive meet. Springer notched a new lifetime mark of 21.89 in the men's 200m, overturning his previous program mark. Hernandez did just the same, overturning his 60m hurdles record in 8.24.
Jacob Hippo got the pace going with his silver medal performance in men's high jump after leaping, 2.01m. The men's distance medley relay team later notched bronze medals after their top-three performance.

"Men placed third in the distance medley with Ilias [El Khattabi], Rey [Hernandez], Ryan [Douihech] and Robert [Pedroza]. Those guys competed hard to get the podium finish. Jacob [Hippo] had another strong day. He is consistent and came though big today with the runner up finish. Tariq [Lajoie] also jumped well to place fifth. Those guys were clutch performers today. Rey [Hernandez] competed well, as he made finals in 60mH school record and 60m. Camden [Springer] raced hard to set a new school record in the 200m and made the 400m finals. He is fit and looking for a big day tomorrow. Men's 800m guys came through strong advancing three to the finals. Robert [Pedroza] looked great in the prelim and anchoring the DMR. He is fit and in the zone. Ryan [Douihech] ran his best race of the season. Decathlon rookies are strong in the top 10 with a solid day in the books. We are looking for another good day tomorrow."

"The ladies really stepped up today. I'm so proud of how well they competed. Nearly every athlete had a lifetime best today. The 5000m was a good event with six ladies sub-18 minutes and three scoring is the best showing maybe ever for our squad as a whole. Isa [Leen], Erica [Fisher] and Hannah [Martin] really ran tough. Ana [Markovina] and Jada [Williams] ran well in the mile to put themselves into the final. Smilla [Kolbe] ran a smart prelim in the 400m. Ella [Chandler] ran smart tactical races for them to go 1-2 in the 800m prelim. The distance medley relay finished off the day with a nice fifth place showing. Ella ran the lead off to Celine [D'Anna] who ran a nice 58 leg with Smilla in the 800m and Ana anchoring. Tomorrow is another exciting day to keep the momentum."

- Ana Markovina & Jada Williams both qualified for the 1-mile finals after their top 10 performances in the preliminary round.
- Smilla Kolbe clinched a seventh-place mark in the women's 400m and will advance to the 400m finals.
- This was her first time competing in a collegiate 400m.Â
