Ospreys Held Owls to 50 Points in Fourth Matinee Game
BOCA RATON, Fla. - North Florida women's basketball (1-3) put up their best defensive performance of the season thus far, but it wasn't enough to pull it off on the road against Florida Atlantic (2-1) in a 50-41 defeat early Wednesday afternoon.
The Ospreys held FAU to 28 points through three periods of play, including only allowing six points in the third quarter. A run to start the fourth quarter for the Owls put them over the top and out of reach for UNF in a low-scoring final.
Jasmynne Gibson was effective for the Ospreys once again with eight points and 12 rebounds for another near double-double performance. The reigning ASUN Freshman of the Week has averaged 12.0 PPG and 9.7 RPG over her past three games played.

First Half: Sydney Pettis had early entries to the points column scoring the first two field goals in the opening minutes of the game...after the first media timeout, no points were scored from either side until just over the one-minute mark, where Grace Hunter made a layup to keep it within five at the end of the first...UNF immediately tied the game with a score from Gibson and a three-pointer from Helena Rafnsdottir...FAU didn't score in the second quarter until the five-minute mark, followed by their next bucket being with 2:40 left in the half...another three was made from Jazmine Spencer to make it a one-possession game at the break.
Second Half: Coming out of the half was fast-break points off turnovers with Spencer and Kaila Rougier flying to the ball to pick up steal-and-score opportunities...Gibson made another layup to keep UNF on a 6-0 run and a three-point lead...a few more tough layups from Rafnsdottir, Gibson and Rougier extended the lead to as much as six entering the fourth quarter...Rougier broke a 31-31 tie at the start of the fourth with another fast-break bucket...Grace Hunter responded to the immediate FAU score with a three-pointer to go back up three...and 11-0 run broke out for the Owls in the defensive battle, but it was halted by Rafnsdottir's score with just over three minutes left...Spencer brought the deficit to five points with 90 seconds left, but the Ospreys couldn't execute late in the nine-point road loss.

"Our team is going through the growing pains of learning how to play together and learning how to win together. Our offensive production today was very poor. The looks we got were solid and we just have to make shots. We need players to step up and hit big shots with more confidence. When we were up by three in the fourth quarter, we put the ball in the hands of our seniors and our best shooters, but did not hit shots to close out the game. Defensively, we needed more discipline to guard without fouling. We put FAU on the free throw line too much. I thought Jas [Gibson] and Helena [Rafnsdottir] were bright spots for us today. We need to get in a rhythm with a handful of kids who produce consistently."
