JACKSONVILLE - Madeline Castillo earned North Florida women's cross country's first-ever ASUN Women's XC Freshman of the Week honor, as announced by the league office on Wednesday afternoon.
Castillo impressed in her collegiate 6k debut at the Gans Creek Classic recording a time of 22:24.9, which put her as the top freshman for the Ospreys in back-to-back meets. She becomes first in program history to win ASUN Freshman of the Week for cross country since the award was first given out during the 2019 season, as well as the first UNF recipient of a weekly award from the conference since 2017.
"Madeline [Castillo] is off to a good start in her college career," said head coach Jeff Pigg. "She came in well-prepared and has worked very hard. I'm proud of her and look forward to watching her progression."
Castillo returns to action with North Florida's next competition set for the Crimson Classic hosted by Alabama on Friday, Oct. 18.
