Will Play From Feb. 2-3 in Tunisia
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida men's tennis senior Rodrigo Crespo has been one of five players selected to represent Costa Rica in the Davis Cup Tie from Feb. 2-3 in Tunis, Tunisia.
This will be part of the first round of the play-off for World Group II, as Crespo and Costa Rica will face off against Tunisia at Courts de Tennis - Cité Nationale Sportive El Menzah. He will be the youngest of the participants from either team joining captain Augusto Arias-Venegas, Jesse Flores and Pablo Nunez on the Costa Rican team.
"Rodrigo [Crespo] has worked so hard these past few years and improved so much. It is amazing to see that pay off with a nod to play for his country," said head coach Matt Lucas. "Not many tennis players get the opportunity to play in the Davis Cup and to play an away tie in the World Group playoffs is something he will remember forever. As his coach, I couldn't be more proud of him and cannot wait to see him compete over there. He had a great summer in the Pan Am games and Central American Games, so I know he is ready for this stage. Go Rodrigo, go Costa Rica, and Swoop!"
Crespo has totaled ASUN First Team All-Conference selection, ASUN Co-Doubles Pair of the Year selection, and was awarded UNFs Most Improve Male Athlete during the 2023 spring season. He entered the preseason as the No. 30 ITA Doubles pair with fellow senior Jonas Hartenstein and has started the 2024 spring with a win in doubles against UCF.
