Jonas Hartenstein Lone Winner in First Singles Match

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - In a hard-fought effort against a nationally-ranked opponent, North Florida men's tennis fell in its season-opening match against No. 23 Florida, 6-1, on Friday evening.

Andreas Scott and Breno Marques got UNF underway in doubles play by beating Nate Bonetto and Henry Jefferson, 6-3. The Gators then pulled one back by way of Jeremy Jin and Aidan Kim, defeating Jonas Hartenstein and Rodrigo Crespo, 3-6.

This left the doubles point to be decided by PJ Kotan and Juan Pablo Cenoz versus Adhithya Ganesan and Tanapatt Nirundorn. Six hard-earned set points were not enough by the Ospreys, as they fell in a tiebreaker, 6-7 [5].

UNF continued to battle from there, as Jonas Hartenstein and Juan Pablo Cenoz won their first sets, 7-6 and 6-4, respectively. Breno Marques won his second set as well to keep the Ospreys alive as the match went on. Unfortunately, these efforts were not enough, as the Ospreys fell to the Gators, 5-1, in singles play and 6-1 overall.

The Ospreys travel to Orlando, Fla., on Saturday, Jan. 20, to face the UCF Knights.
