
Track & Field Returns to Florida for Tom Jones Memorial

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida track and field is set for a fourth round of outdoor competition, as the programs head to Gainesville, Fla., to participate in the Tom Jones Memorial at Florida.
The Osprey women will commence the first event for UNF with the long jump starting at 2:30pm. This will be their second time traveling to the James G. Pressly Stadium during the outdoor season and their sixth time competing in Gainesville between both indoor and outdoor.
LAST TIME OUT
Men
- Jassiel Torres headlined the male high jumpers with an exceptional 2.03m leap.
- The senior cleared the mark in only one attempt to snag third.
- Jacob Hippo was right behind Torres leaping 2.00m in the event.
- Tariq Lajoie rounded out the group of jumpers with a 1.95m mark.
- Aiden Arnold added flames to the track with a leading time of 3:46.45 in the men's 1500m.
- He placed first overall for the men earning a new lifetime mark in the race.
- Jared Vazquez paced exceptionally well in the 1500m race, crunching the event in just 3:47.52.
- The fifth-year senior smashed a third-place rank in the event.
- Robert Pedroza fought hard in the 1500m among some of the top competitors in the nation.
- The junior hit a program-best time of 3:40.69, which tops the old record held by Nick Morken that was set in 2016.
- Macauley Franks mirrored a similar performance finishing slightly behind him in sixth.
- Franks earned a new personal-best of 3:41.31 in the race.
- Cole Perry made a collegiate debut in the 3000m steeplechase clocking in a sixth-place finish.
- Onix Ortiz punched a new lifetime mark of 9:22.31 in the men's 3000m steeplechase.
- Timothy Doyle earned a top-15 placement in the men's 800m at 1:50.18.
- The Orlando, Fla., native outranked runners from Florida, Georgia Tech, Maryland, Penn State, Rutgers, Iowa, Pittsburg, Florida State, USC and Miami.
Women
- Emma Jane Schlageter kicked off the first event for the women, with the senior clocking the 1500m run in 4:31.72 to snag sixth.
- The New Smyrna Beach, Fla., native scratched seven seconds off of her previous personal-best record.
- Neve Moulai maintained great strides in the 1500m, posting a top-five placement in the second heat.
- Erica Fisher made a notable mark in the women's 5000m, earning a second-place rank overall.
- Isa Leen fought hard in the women's 5000m as well to clinch fourth overall with a lifetime mark of 17:24.09.
- Mia McLain went top-five in the women's steeplechase at 11:27.11.
- Ella Chandler put up a strong race in the women's 800m earning a top finish in the fifth heat.
- Chandler ran a little over her previous personal-best rank, as she finished in 2:13.06.
- Kaley Petrosky fought hard in women's high jump, clearing 1.66m on her second attempt.
- This was the highest opening bar that Petrosky has cleared on the season.
- She outranked several contenders from South Florida, Rutgers, Indiana and Vanderbilt.
NOTABLE OPPONENTS
The UNF men and women will compete against several out-of-state Power Five competitors, including teams such as Rutgers, Ohio State, Alabama, Tennessee, Mississippi State, Baylor and Texas Tech. In addition, the team will compete against in-state competitors such as UCF, Florida A&M, South Florida and Florida.
