Scored 31 Points and Broke Program Three-Point Record Against Piedmont
ATLANTA - Freshman Alexa Washington turned a historic showing against Piedmont with a program-best nine three-pointers into her second ASUN Freshman of the Week honor of the season, as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.
"I'm thrilled that Alexa [Washington] is being recognized this week for her hard work," said head coach Erika Lambert. "She has clocked a lot of gym time to earn her new place as the record holder here for made threes in a game. That's so big time for a freshman. Lex carries herself with a lot of maturity & holds herself to a very high standard on the court. She's a heck of a shooter and her teammates have done a great job finding her."
The Monroeville, Pa., native becomes the first Osprey to win multiple awards for the conference's Freshman of the Week. She is also the first player since Jazz Bond to win two or more ASUN awards in a season, while doing so before the turn of the calendar.
Washington become the first UNF player to score at least 31 points in a game since Bond reached that mark during the 2021-22 season. She also broke the record for most made threes with nine total and set career-bests in field goals made (11) and minutes played (30).
The Ospreys return to action for the final time before Christmas break on Wednesday, Dec. 20, at 12 p.m., to face Winthrop in UNF Arena.
