Longest Winning Streak for the Program Since 2017
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Dominance at home continued Tuesday for North Florida men's tennis as the Ospreys (8-4) won their sixth-straight match thanks to a 6-1 victory against Youngstown State (5-6) Tuesday, Mar. 8. The Ospreys are 6-0 at home this year and are on their longest winning streak since the 2017 season when they rattled off eight wins towards the end of the year.
Of UNF's four losses, three against Power Five programs. UNF has defeated Charleston, Georgia Southern, SC State, UNC Wilmington, South Alabama and Youngstown State at home this season.
How it Happened
North Florida was leading 4-1 at the three doubles position before Rodrigo Crespo and PJ Kotan won via YSU's retirement. Matt Carroll and Nilo Duarte stayed hot in doubles play, clinching with a 6-3 win at the second slot.
YSU nabbed its lone point at the fourth position in singles, although Bruno Vietri took advantage of his spot in the lineup, giving North Florida the lead for good with a 6-3, 6-3 win against Will Everett.
Carroll won his fourth-straight singles match, downing Harry Fouzas, 6-3, 6-2, while Nilo Duarte clinched the victory by grinding out a 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 triumph at second singles. Duarte has won five-straight singles matches now.
North Florida stole any momentum YSU could muster with those wins. Despite falling in the first set, Jonas Hartenstein won 6-2 in the second frame and 10-5 in the 10-point tiebreaker. Jorge Nunez came back to win a second-set tiebreaker, 7-6 (8-6) and eventually the third set, giving North Florida its sixth point.
