
DIAMOND PREVIEW: Softball Faces Holy Cross & Tennessee State in Midweek Matchups

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida softball will be ready to continue their hot streak of seven scoreless innings allowed when they meet Holy Cross for a doubleheader on Tuesday, followed by a single game against Tennessee State on Wednesday at the UNF Softball Complex.
The Ospreys have strung together eight consecutive victories with seven of them being shutouts and two of them ending in the fifth inning by run-rule. With three wins during midweek play, they could have their best start through 24 games at 19-5 since the 2013 season, where UNF started that season with the same record and finished 42-15.
This will also be their last matchups before heading into ASUN competition this upcoming weekend against Florida Gulf Coast in Fort Myers, Fla.
- Halle Arends has been reigning terror on her opponents with two complete-games in seven wins, a 1.11 ERA, 40 strikeouts and only seven earned runs allowed in 44 innings pitched this season. She most recently went 2-0 at the UNF-JU Spring Break Challenge with 15 strikeouts in 13 innings pitched, as well as no runs allowed in her appearances.
- The dominance on the mound doesn't stop their, as Morgan Clausen holds the best ERA in the ASUN conference at 0.67 with five wins, while Erin Kyle has pitched the most innings at 46 total with a 2.13 ERA and four wins.
- Paige Pfent recently had her on-base streak snap at 32-straight games against Monmouth, but she still holds the top batting average on the team at .361 with 22 hits and 10 RBIs in 21 starts. She had a terrific weekend at the UNF-JU Spring Break Challenge with a .467 BA, four runs, four RBIs, and 10 total bases in those five games.
- Kayla Harper continues to be a menace on the base path with 13 stolen bases and 16 runs scored for the Ospreys, both ranking top seven in the conference. She has scored a run her last six appearances, including two runs scored in two of those games through that span.
- Savannah Channell was able to get her footing back this past weekend with three multi-hit games after not recording a hit this season until her 14th appearance. The former ASUN All-Freshman team selection and Liberty transfer was moved up to the two-spot in the lineup, as well as second base on defense, and had six hits with a pair of doubles while scoring five times.
- Hadlee Reichert, Takiya London, and Regan Hermeling have stepped up in starting roles these past few games for the Ospreys. Reichert had five hits in seven plate appearances last weekend, London hit her first home run of the season against Monmouth, and Hermeling made her first start of the year in right field with clutch RBI-hits against Monmouth.

OPPONENT NOTES
- Holy Cross is 2-7 to start their 2022 campaign with wins over College of Charleston and Fairleigh Dickinson. One of their losses this season came to Saint Francis, who the Ospreys defeated twice this past weekend. Megan Yurchick has the best batting average on the team at .389 (7-for-18), while Jessica Mott has the most hits this season with eight. Kelly Nelson is the Crusaders' ace on the mound with 32 innings pitched, a 2.63 ERA, and 40 strikeouts to her name.
- UNF leads in the overall series against the Crusaders, 1-0, with their only meeting being a 3-1 victory on Mar. 5, 2019, in Jacksonville, Fla.
- Tennessee State is 7-11 on the season and has played in four non-conferences tournaments before meeting with UNF for their mid-week matchup. They will also be playing Jacksonville at UNF Softball Complex on Wednesday before they face the Ospreys right afterwards at 5:30 p.m. Mikayla Duke has been their best bat through 18 games with a .357 BA, 10 hits, five runs, two RBIs, and two steals. The Tigers also have three consistent arms taking the mound, as they each have 26 innings pitched or more with a combined 65 strikeouts and 3.66 ERA.
- This will be the first meeting between UNF and Tennessee State in program history.
