Ospreys Race Ahead to a 4-0 Advantage
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - UNF men's tennis clinched doubles in convincing fashion and had that momentum spill over into singles play to generate three quick points as the Ospreys defeated Georgia Southern, 4-3, Sunday, Feb. 20.
North Florida improves to 2-0 at home on the season with the victory in the opening match of the four-match home stand.
How it Happened
Nilo Duarte and Matt Carroll were the first to finish in doubles, winning 6-1 shortly before Rodrigo Crespo and PJ Kotan followed suit with a 6-3 win. Jorge Nunez and Jonas Hartenstein won their third-straight match as a duo after the point was clinched.
The bottom half of the UNF lineup did the scoring in singles, doing so quickly. The Ospreys won courts, five, six and four in that order to create a 4-0 lead and clinch the match.
Duarte's 6-3, 6-3 win against Valentin Dun was the deciding point on the day, coming after Crespo and Nunez secured straight-sets wins.
Slots one and two went to 10-point tiebreakers after Georgia Southern got on the board at the three slot. Hartenstein came up just short in the 10-point tiebreaker with Pol del Castillo, while PJ Kotan fell by the same fate at the second slot.
