Men’s Tennis Wins at UNC Asheville in Marathon Match

Ospreys Open Weekend in the Carolinas on Top, Match Played indoors
ASHEVILLE, N.C. - In a marathon match that was played indoors, North Florida men's tennis (2-3) outlasted UNC Asheville (4-1), handing the Bulldogs their first loss of the season in a 4-3 win at the indoor courts of the Asheville Racquet Club Saturday, Feb. 12.
North Florida picks up its first road win of the spring season, giving the Ospreys a win in their first-ever match with the Bulldogs.
The match was played indoors and had the unusual structure of being played three courts at a time.
How it Happened
Rodrigo Crespo and Nilo Duarte set the tone for doubles, winning 6-1 before Jonas Hartenstein and Jorge Nunez clinched the point with a 6-4 win at the top slot.
Matt Carroll bounced UNC Asheville's third-singles player and Hartenstein got tough when it mattered most, winning 7-5, 7-6 (7-5) to give UNF a 3-0 lead.
UNCA got on the board at second singles with in a three-set battle that went to Harry Thursfield. It was Jorge Nunez who was the clincher for North Florida, winning 6-1, 6-3.
The Bulldogs earned a pair of wins at slots five and six to get within one after the team decision was made.
