TAMPA, Fla. - The men's track team had a successful day at the USF Invite. Jaasiel Torres and Jared Vazquez earned first-place finishes in the high jump and 1500m respectively.

Torres led the meet with a mark of 2.08m in the high jump. Junior transfer Ryan Thomas placed second with a personal record of 2.03m.

"Today was a really good day," said head coach Jeff Pigg. "We did very well in the high jump with Jaasiel placing first and Ryan Thomas placing second. Jaasiel has been very consistent and Ryan had a personal best, overall the group did very well."

The Ospreys dominated the 1500m, claiming the first four places. Vazquez covered the track in 3:54.29 in the win. Freshman Jake Turner finished close behind, coming in second with a time of 3:54.62. Noah Perkins (3:55.06) placed third and freshman Thomas Weiler (3:56.03) placed fourth.

"The men competed very well in the 1500m. Jared won the event which was awesome because the conditions weren't ideal with the wind. Noah ran a really smart race as well, Jake had a personal record, and Thomas improved by four seconds from his time last week."

In the 800m, Timothy Doyle placed second with a time of 1:49.98. Freshman Robert Pedroza came in fifth in 1:54.18.

"Tim did very well in the 800m placing second and also had a personal best. He got to East Regionals with his previous time, so him breaking 1:50 is a good breakthrough."

Spencer Shaw competed in two events, the 200m and the 400m. He placed 13th in the 200m with a time of 23.00. He completed the 400m in 49.75, placing 11th.

"Spencer also had a solid day. It was very windy and for him to run a sub 50 in the 400m was great. He looked strong."

The women's track team competes tomorrow on the second day of the USF Invite. Both teams are back in action April 16 for the Tom Jones Invite in Gainsville, Fla.
