Women's Tennis Clinches ASUN South Division Title

FORT MYERS, Fla. - The North Florida women's tennis team finished the ASUN regular-season undefeated, 6-0, clinching the South Division title with the win against FGCU Saturday. The Ospreys dropped the doubles point to the Eagles but bounced back only falling on court six in singles.
Constanza Gorches and Lucia Montano edged Maja Ornberg and Emma Bardet on court one, 6-4, to earn the Ospreys' sole win in doubles. Sean Lodzki and Florencia Rossi fell on court three to the Eagles, 6-3.
Catherine Gulihur and Valentina Mariotto had a chance in the two slot to clinch the doubles point. The pair were nosed out by Sofia Perez and Ida Ferding, 6-4, to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead.Â
Mariotto was bested by Alba Retortillo in the six slot 6-0, 6-3, and FGCU had a 2-0 advantage. Summer Yardley got North Florida on the board first, winning 6-4, 6-0, on court four against Perez.
Montano downed Ornberg in the one slot 6-0, 6-4, to tie the match at 2-2. Gulihur earned the Ospreys their first lead of the day, dominating Fanny Norin 6-2, 6-1, on court two.Â
Constanza Gorches clinched the match for North Florida after defeating Bardet 6-2, 7-6 (7-5), in the three slot. Freshman Annabelle Davis battled Ferding on court five, taking her to three sets. Davis edged Ferding 6-2, 5-7, 1-0 (11-9), earning the Osprey's fifth singles win.
Montano, Gulihur, and Davis finished ASUN regular-season singles play 6-0. In doubles, Montano and Gorches went 5-0 in conference play with pair Gulihur and Ana Paula Melilo going 3-0.Â
North Florida returns to play Tuesday, April 13 to host Florida A&M for Senior Day.
