
Five Things: Softball Travels to No. 6 Florida, Hosts Georgia Southern

JACKSONVILLE - North Florida softball travels to Gainesville, Fla. for a game against No. 6 Florida Thursday. The Ospreys host Georgia Southern at the UNF Softball Complex for a three-game stint between Friday and Saturday.Â
Home softball games are closed to the public. Admission is only via team pass lists and for a limited number of UNF students. Fans must wear masks while in attendance with the exception of eating or drinking. Please check our COVID Protocols page for any updates.

WHAT TO KNOW
- The Ospreys got their first win in the final game of the River City Leadoff with a 3-1 victory against Boston College. UNF is now 1-3 in the early part of the year.
- Sophomore Shannon Glover picked up where she left off as a freshman as she recorded a team-best four hits including two doubles on the weekend.
- Junior Rebecca Koskey recorded the first home run of the season.
- In the circle, Halle Arends recorded her first win in an Osprey uniform with a complete game against BC.Â
- Head coach Marcie Higgs is now in her 13th season with an overall record of 409-501. Higgs recorded her 400th career win in a 10-2 victory against Alabama A&M last season and now owns a 317-299 mark at UNF.
OPPONENT NOTES
- No. 6 Florida (8-0) is coming off a five-game sweep at the Bubly Invitational. Pitcher Kayla Chronister threw a complete-game shutout and tallied a career-high six strikeouts in a win against Charlotte. The Gator pitching staff currently holds 0.94 ERA, second in the SEC. Offensively, Cheyenne Lindsey led Florida in the invitational with a .400 average (6-for-15). Collectively the Gators scored 30 runs off 40 hits with a .323 average over the weekend.Â
- Florida leads the series 10-0; Florida downed UNF 10-2 in Gainesville on Feb. 12, 2020
- Georgia Southern opened the season with a 1-4 record at the Bubly Invitational. Faith Shirley led the team with a .412 average, seven hits, two doubles, a home run and three RBI. In the circle, Kyleigh Richardson tossed 9.2 innings with a 5.79 ERA and four strikeouts.Â
