Ties Highest-Ever Ranking In Regional Poll
NEW ORLEANS - The North Florida men's cross country team came in at No. 4 in the South Region Rankings, which ties their highest-ever ranking, released by the U.S. Track and Field Cross Country Association on Monday, Nov. 1.
UNF was last ranked fourth in Week 2 of the 2015 season, right after their first-place finish at the Mountain Dew Invitational in Gainesville, Fla. Assistant coach Tyler Stahl has been a part of both No. 4 rankings for the men's team, as he was a sophomore at the UF meet in 2015 and is now coaching for the Ospreys this season.
The Ospreys moved up a spot from their fifth-ranked position in the previous poll after taking home the ASUN Championship this past weekend in Orlando, Fla. They jumped over Lipscomb, who placed third in the ASUN meet, and remain ranked ahead of other Power Five teams such as Tennessee, Florida, and Georgia.
Senior Noah Perkins led the way for UNF at the ASUN Championship with a second-place finish after posting a new personal-best time of 24:09.2, which ranks third all-time in Division I for the Ospreys. Senior Nathan Jubran placed right behind Perkins in fifth, as they both were awarded first-team All-ASUN after the meet.
Sophomore Jake Turner, senior Timothy Doyle, and junior Aidan O'Gorman all finished second-team All-ASUN at the conference championship meet after they all ran top-14 times in Orlando, Fla. Senior Jared Vazquez and sophomore Robert Pedroza finished out the pack for the Ospreys to have all seven UNF runners place in the top 21 individuals of the ASUN Championship meet.
The UNF men's cross country team will now prepare for the NCAA South Regional meet that will take place on Friday, Nov. 12, in Huntsville, Ala.
"The ranking represents a lot of work and success by our men's team, so I am proud of it. It has been a good year, but we are planning for more! What really counts regarding the South region is how we finish next week. We will stay focused and continue to do the things that got us to this point." -- head coach Jeff Pigg
