JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - For the third consecutive meet this season, a freshman Osprey delivers the conference's top rookie performance with Craig Allard Jr. earning the ASUN Men's Cross Country Freshman of the Week award for the first time in his career, as announced by the conference office on Wednesday afternoon.
Allard Jr. follows in the footsteps of fellow freshmen Alejandro Romagosa and Parker Banzhaf with as UNF freshmen to reel in weekly ASUN awards. He clocked a personal-best 8k time of 25:22.6 to help the team place as the runner-up over various Power Four programs at the Crimson Classic.
The Ospreys have now brought in the most ASUN XC freshman honors for a single season in program history with three total. This also marks the first time since the spring 2021 season that three or more weekly awards from the conference have been given out to UNF during the cross country season.
"Craig [Allard Jr.] has been improving nicely over the past few weeks," Director of Cross Country Jeff Pigg stated. "We hope to see this continue throughout his career."
Allard Jr. and the Ospreys will be back in Jacksonville, Fla., where they will start postseason competition at the Atlantic Sun Cross Country Championships on Friday, Oct. 31, at Cecil Park.
