Duo Claims Ospreys First Regional Doubles Title
ORLANDO - North Florida women's tennis' Kit Gulihur and Ana Paula Melilo rose to the occasion Monday morning, defeating the Florida Gators' Carly Briggs and Marlee Zein in the ITA Southeast Regionals Doubles Championship match to claim the doubles main draw crown.
Gulihur and Melilo downed UF's pair, 5-7 6-2, 1-0 [10-5], grinding out the title match to conclude a historic run through the 2021 ITA Southeast Regional Doubles Main Draw.
It's the first time a UNF women's tennis doubles duo has claimed the ITA Division Southeast Regional Doubles title.
The UNF doubles pair won three doubles matches against SEC foes, downing Georgia twice and Florida in the title match. Gulihur and Melilo also defeated Miami's Achong and Richardson, while advancing against UCF's Zeleva and Levashova.
The duo advances to the ITA National Championships Nov. 4-7.
