Howard Breaks Career-Wins Record As Ospreys Earn Split

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Senior Chaney Howard made UNF history Friday, earning her 62nd career victory to eclipse Courtney Miller's previously held all-time school mark during a 5-0 sweep of Eckerd. The Ospreys would split the day, falling to Arizona State in the opener.

Four of five matches went to three sets although the Sun Devils (4-3) outlasted the Ospreys in each of the them in the 5-0 loss to open the weekend. The first slot was the lone to be finished in two sets, although that was close as well with Antonia Harrison and Chaney Howard were edged 21-19, 21-19.

Madilyn McCarty and Nicole DeBolt along with Brittany Pase and Lauren Galinis took their respective opening sets before the ASU's second and third pairs won the next two. The team of Dana Roskic and Callie Workman had their four-match winning streak snapped. Carolyn Cain and Blaire Register picked up a victory at the extra pair position, improving to 3-0 on the year after winning Flight A of the Pairs Tournament last weekend.

The Ospreys (6-3) earned their fourth sweep of the season in the win, taking all five matches with ease. Blaire Register and Breana Edwards earned their first win as a pair, 21-7, 21-11, getting the victory at the five slot.

The record-setting victory for Chaney Howard came alongside Antonia Harrison at the top slot. They won 21-16, 21-16. UNF prevented Eckerd (0-9) from reaching double-digit points in four of the ten sets played.

UNF plays two more matches tomorrow when it faces Tampa at 10 a.m. followed by Saint Leo at 1 p.m.
