Beach Volleyball Plays Four at the Battle on the Bay

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Eckerd College Battle of the Bay Tournament returns to St. Petersburg for the third year in a row when the Tritons host (RV) North Florida, (RV) Arizona State, Tampa and St. Leo. Action will start at 11 a.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. on Saturday.

Last Time Out
JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. - The College of Charleston (3-0) edged UNF (5-2) by the slimmest of margins and Carolyn Cain and Blaire Register earned the victory in Bracket A of the pairs play.

Receiving Votes
The Ospreys have received votes for back-to-back weeks in the AVCA Coaches Poll. UNF also received votes in the March 4 DiG Magazine Collegiate Beach Volleyball Poll.

Getting Familiar

The Ospreys' roster is 20 deep this season, featuring two in Taryn Griffey and Chaney Howard that received ASUN postseason honors a year ago.
Howard was recognized as a member of the ASUN Preseason All-Conference Team. She was also the Fan-Voted Preseason Player of the Year. This past weekend she tied Courtney Miller for the most wins in UNF Beach Volleyball history (61).
Freshman Dana Roskic and sophomore Callie Workman went 3-0 last weekend, winning six of the seven sets that they played as they improved to 6-1 as a pair on the year. Their performance earned them ASUN Pair of the Week laurels.

A Tough Schedule
The AVCA Collegiate Beach Volleyball Preseason Poll was announced Monday, Feb. 11, and included on that list of teams at least receiving votes are 12 teams set to play North Florida this upcoming season.

RV Arizona State

The Sun Devils are 3-3, having picked up wins against Washington, Grand Canyon and New Mexico. Loyola Maramount, California and UCLA have handed ASU its losses.
Arizona State played with four new pairs in its last match, a 5-0 sweep of Washington.
ASU received votes in the most recent AVCA Coaches Poll, as well as the DiG Magazine Collegiate Beach Volleyball poll.

Eckerd

The Tritons are 0-8 this season.
Eckerd has lost to Stetson (5-0) and Jacksonville (3-2) this season.
It has played two games against ranked opponents this year.
Eckerd went 17-6 a year ago.

Tampa

The Spartans are 3-5 on the year, having picked up wins against UT - Martin, Jacksonville and Eckerd.
The Division II program went 14-10 a year ago, falling to UNF, 4-1.
Melissa Elias and Jordan Duffy are the team's best pair, going 4-0 at the number-four spot.

Saint Leo

Division II Saint Leo dropped all three of its matches at the UNF Invitational last weekend. The Lions are 1-6 this season.
The program is in its second year after going 5-10 last season.
